Sacramento's long-running outdoor music series is back, and local businesses are already feeling the ripple effect. Concerts in the Park kicked off its 2025 season last Friday, drawing thousands of attendees to Cesar Chavez Plaza. But the real story this year is what happens after the final chord fades.
A growing number of downtown bars, restaurants, and retail shops are rolling out after-dark specials specifically timed to the concert crowd. Instead of heading home when the music stops at 9 p.m., more people are sticking around. Several venues near the plaza have reported a noticeable spike in late-evening foot traffic compared to previous years. One bar manager noted that the first Friday of the series brought in nearly double the usual post-show business, with many patrons ordering food and drinks well into the night.
The city's Office of Downtown Development has been quietly encouraging these partnerships. The idea is to turn a single event into a longer economic boost for the neighborhood. Early data suggests it is working. Parking garages near the plaza saw a 15 percent increase in usage after 9 p.m. on concert nights, and several restaurants extended their hours to accommodate the surge.
For small business owners, the return of the concert series is more than just a seasonal tradition. It is a lifeline after a slow winter. One cafe owner near the plaza said the first concert alone brought in enough revenue to cover a slow week in February. With more than a dozen concerts scheduled through the summer, the hope is that the momentum will carry well into fall.
