Harley-Davidson has unveiled a new corporate roadmap called "Back to the Bricks," a plan aimed at stabilizing the iconic motorcycle manufacturer after a brutal start to 2026. The announcement came alongside the company's first-quarter earnings report, which painted a grim picture of its financial health. Revenue continued its downward spiral, and net income for the quarter plummeted from $133.1 million in the same period last year to just $24.8 million. That represents a staggering 81% drop in profitability, driven by weaker demand for new bikes and ongoing inventory challenges at dealerships.
The "Back to the Bricks" strategy appears to be a return-to-basics approach, focusing on core model lines and strengthening the brand's connection with its traditional riding community. Executives did not provide granular details on specific product launches or cost-cutting measures during the earnings call, but they emphasized a shift away from aggressive expansion into new lifestyle segments. Instead, the company plans to double down on its heavyweight touring and cruiser motorcycles, which have historically been its strongest sellers.
Analysts note that the company is under immense pressure to reverse the trend. The sharp decline in net income suggests that previous efforts to attract younger and more diverse riders have not yet translated into sustained sales volume. With the first quarter of 2026 in the books, all eyes are now on how quickly the "Back to the Bricks" plan can stop the bleeding and get Harley-Davidson back on the road to recovery.
