A new initiative aims to help aspiring food business owners get their start in Northern Virginia. The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, or AEDP, has teamed up with the MOVE Business Chamber to offer a subsidized program for local entrepreneurs. The effort includes a free kickoff session on July 29 at 1940 Duke Street, where attendees will hear from the owners of Alexandria Restaurant Partners and the operator of the top-ranked Teriyaki Madness franchise in the country.
The program provides eight fully subsidized seats for Alexandria residents. These spots cover the cost of training and mentorship for people who want to open a food business in the region. Organizers say the goal is to lower barriers for entry and give local entrepreneurs access to experienced operators who have already built successful concepts.
The July 29 session is open to the public and will include a panel discussion and networking. Speakers will share practical advice on leasing, staffing, and navigating local regulations. The full program then continues with workshops and one-on-one coaching over several weeks. Applications for the eight subsidized seats are now open, with a focus on Alexandria residents who have a concrete business idea but need guidance on the next steps.
