A woman who was critically wounded in a shooting earlier this week has died from her injuries, according to the Aurora Police Department. The incident began when the victim was shot while inside her vehicle at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Peoria Street.
After being struck, the woman managed to drive a short distance to a nearby business, where she collapsed while seeking emergency assistance. First responders rushed her to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition before her death was confirmed by authorities.
The Aurora Police Department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are now actively working to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting and are appealing to the community for information. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased woman, pending notification of her family.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. As the investigation continues, authorities are processing evidence from the scene and reviewing available footage from the area in hopes of identifying a suspect.
