A new aviation business is set to touch down in the Lowcountry this fall, bringing with it a wave of job opportunities for both local residents and military veterans. Sterling Helicopter announced plans to open its first South Carolina operation in Beaufort County this September.
The company, which specializes in helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, selected the location due to the region's strong ties to the military and its skilled workforce. Officials say the new facility will create dozens of positions ranging from aircraft mechanics and avionics technicians to administrative support roles. Veterans with aviation experience are especially encouraged to apply, as the company has a history of prioritizing hiring those who have served.
Beaufort County is home to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and a large population of former service members. Sterling Helicopter's move is seen as a natural fit, offering stable, well-paying jobs in a growing industry. Local economic development leaders praised the decision, noting that it strengthens the area's industrial base and provides a career path for those transitioning out of the military.
The facility is expected to be fully operational by late September, with hiring already underway. Company representatives say they are committed to becoming a long-term part of the Lowcountry business community.
